Bilfinger Wins Contract to Provide Zeeland Refinery with All-in-One Maintenance Solution

  • Bilfinger to provide Zeeland Refinery in the Netherlands with comprehensive maintenance services to ensure efficient operation; full-service scope facilitated by business acquired in 2024
  • New collaboration on one of Europe’s most significant oil refineries; processing capacity of approx. 11.5 million tons of crude oil per year
  • 6-year framework agreement follows long-term collaboration for plant turnarounds

Rotterdam, the Netherlands. International industrial services provider Bilfinger has entered into a six-year framework agreement with Zeeland Refinery to provide comprehensive maintenance services for their oil refinery in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. The scope includes the execution and coordination of maintenance of all trades. By ensuring smooth, energy-efficient operations, the collaboration is set to contribute to Zeeland Refinery’s efficiency and sustainability targets.

As main solution partner for the refinery, Bilfinger provides multidisciplinary services in the area of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance (repairs and replacement) as well as routine work like minor adjustments. The work preparation, execution and the coordination of these tasks is carried out by a regional team of specialists from Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Belgium & Netherlands. This includes servicing of mechanical, piping and rotating equipment – a scope which was enabled by Bilfinger’s acquisition of new business in 2024.

Zeeland Refinery specializes in refining crude oil into high-quality fuels and other petroleum products for both domestic and international customers. With a processing capacity of approximately 11.5 million tons of crude oil per year, it is one of the largest and most significant refineries in the country; not least because of its strategic location in Vlissingen, where it is situated near major shipping routes.

Zeeland Refinery continuously invests in modernization to make its processes more efficient and environmentally friendly. While the former means maximizing production output and reducing operating costs, the latter focusses on reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption. By applying a tailored, comprehensive maintenance strategy that utilizes the latest technology, Bilfinger will ultimately support the achievement of these goals.

“We are excited to be supporting Zeeland Refinery, as their targets are in line with the Bilfinger Strategy to be No. 1 for customers in enhancing efficiency and sustainability,” says Thierry Burki, President E&M Belgium & Netherlands at Bilfinger. “After more than a decade of successfully managing turnarounds for our customer, we are happy to now be embarking on this new journey together. We are committed to further strengthening Zeeland Refinery’s pivotal position in the European energy market.”
