Bilfinger pursues an integrated approach that balances economic, environmental and social issues. Sustainability is therefore an important part of our business strategy and embedded in our Code of Conduct.
Our CSR policy is based on the following 3 pillars:

EcoVadis
EcoVadis, the world’s largest provider of corporate sustainability ratings, has presented Bilfinger SE with a Gold Award for sustainable, ethical and responsible business practices. The Group is thus among the top 5 percent of companies from the more than 100,000 throughout the world that EcoVadis analyzed.
Our Sustainability Goals
Bilfinger has reported annually on its sustainability activities since 2011 and has published an externally audited non-financial report every year since 2018. In accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and as part of the current annual report, the Group has also set specific targets for its own carbon footprint in the form of a so-called "Sustainability Commitment." This commitment calls for successively reducing CO2 equivalents under Scope 1 and 2 from approximately 60,000 tons in 2021 to "net zero" by the end of 2030 at the latest.

CO2-performance ladder former Stork
Sustainable entrepreneurship plays an increasingly important role in our activities. An important part of this is reducing our CO₂ emissions. This means lower energy and fuel consumption and making more use of sustainable energy sources.
The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a CO₂ management system of the Dutch Climate-Friendly Procurement and Entrepreneurship Foundation (SKAO). This is sometimes requested in tenders, but is mainly a means of making improvements in reducing our organization's CO₂ emissions. Our certificate and part of the underlying documentation can be found on the website of SKAO Certificate Holders (co2-prestatieladder.nl).
In order to better manage, make visible and verifiable our efforts in the field of CO₂ reduction, Stork will be certified at level 5 with all locations in the Netherlands from September 2023.
Achieved results on our own footprint
The development of the CO₂ footprint within Stork is presented in semi-annual newsletters. Newsletters can be consulted here.
Chain approach
Stork also contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions in the chain and the sector. For example, by participating in project(s) on green hydrogen that Stork AMT is specifically working on. For example, Stork has committed itself to 'The Hydrogen Coalition'. The Hydrogen Coalition has called on the government to opt for green hydrogen. This is in line with the social responsibility that Stork takes to harmoniously combine its business activities and processes, people, the environment and making a profit.
At the moment, no project with an award advantage is being implemented. However, we do participate in several initiatives. Read more on the public SKAO website.
CO₂ reduction policy
The CO₂ management plan discusses the CO₂ footprint of the base year 2019. In addition, this plan includes topics related to requirements from the CO₂ Performance Ladder (What is the CO₂ Performance Ladder?). Think of the description of the Stork organization, the Tasks and Responsibilities matrix and the Communication Plan.
In order to reduce CO₂ consumption, objectives and measures have been established for the period 2022-2025. These are elaborated in the Action Plan document and the progress report. This report also shows the progress of the CO₂ Performance Ladder compared to previous years. In this, we see an annual, steady decrease in our CO₂ emissions, whereby we are ahead of the set targets. The total CO₂ emissions per year are shown in our public CO₂ Footprints (Public CO2 footprints - Environmental Barometer - Stimular).
