Van Iterson Institute at Bilfinger: 6 Months as a Junior Industrial Consultant
WITH NEW RESPONSIBILITIES IN EVERY PROJECT, I HAVE THE CHANCE TO IMPLEMENT THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE FROM THE INSTITUTE AND SEE THE THEORY IN ACTION."
Unbelievable that I've been part of the Bilfinger team as a Junior Industrial Consultant for half a year now. Time has flown by in a whirlwind of projects and learning experiences.
The weekly training sessions are a consistent thread throughout my journey, covering various industry fields and personal development topics. They are like an ongoing masterclass where I can delve deep into the latest trends, technologies, and industry standards, taught by the most experienced experts of the company. This is not just an opportunity to learn from the best, but also to network and exchange ideas with like-minded professionals. Another part of the trainings are client visits to large industrial sites such as tank terminals, pharmaceutical manufacturers, breweries, and many more clients where an inspiring atmosphere prevails.
While these are valuable aspects of my Bilfinger journey, I feel the Van Iterson Institute truly shines in my daily tasks. Even though I voluntarily start my workday at 6:30 am, I have been a real part of the team since the beginning, treated as a knowledgeable colleague and not as a coffee brewing intern. This gives me the chance to get a glimpse of every consultancy department, allowing me to get an overview and (over time) growing into a role that suits my interests and strengths. Furthermore, with new responsibilities in every project, I have the chance to implement the acquired knowledge from the institute and see the theory in action.
“With new responsibilities in every project, I have the chance to implement the acquired knowledge from the institute and see the theory in action.”
Growing up as a global citizen, I very much appreciate the flexibility the company allows. I can provide a life in Germany for my wife and baby on the way, while traveling all over the Netherlands, staying in hotels, meeting colleagues and clients. At the same time, I am free to work from home so I can enjoy real good coffee and don’t have to fight over standing desks in the office.
Looking ahead, I am determined to deepen my knowledge, while working towards a position as a Consultancy Lead with a specific focus on Sustainability and Asset Management.
In a nutshell, being part of the Van Iterson Institute at Bilfinger has not only strengthened my technical skills but has also provided a platform for continuous professional growth. With the weekly training sessions as my guide, I eagerly anticipate the next phase of my journey. Here's to more knowledge, less roadside incidents, even more challenges, and, above all, more growth!
