Lünendonk List 2023: Bilfinger remains Germany's leading industrial services provider

  • Bilfinger continues to position itself as the No. 1 strategic partner to German industry
  • Mannheim-based Group remains the only industrial services provider with domestic revenue of more than €1 billion
  • Growing demand for increased efficiency and sustainability as market drivers

Mannheim, Germany. Bilfinger once again maintains its top position in the ranking of leading industrial services providers in Germany. This is the result of the latest Lünendonk list, which is compiled annually by the recognized market research company Lünendonk & Hossenfelder GmbH. Since the first publication of the ranking in 2009, Bilfinger has been the market leader without interruption. Bilfinger's output volume in the German market, which is decisive for the ranking, amounted to €1,002.8 million in financial year 2022. The international Group, headquartered in Mannheim, is thus the only company whose domestic sales exceed the €1 billion mark.

This continued strong position is due in particular to the transformation needs of German industry in terms of decarbonization and digitalization. Here, Bilfinger can support its customers from the process industry with comprehensive solutions thanks to its strategic repositioning as a leading company to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

“We are proud to have been number one for our customers in the German process industry for such a long time. My thanks go to all our employees, whose dedication and expertise help to ensure that industrial plants can be operated at the highest levels of efficiency and sustainability. This award encourages us to further expand Bilfinger's market position,” says Jürgen Liedl, Executive President Engineering & Maintenance Europe at Bilfinger.

According to the study, the overall financial year 2022 was heavily impacted by the effects of the war in Ukraine, including inflation, as well as high raw material and energy prices. However, thanks to its strategic focus on increasing efficiency and sustainability for its customers, Bilfinger was able to operate successfully despite the tense overall economic situation. The Lünendonk study identifies the switch to climate-friendly production processes and the growing demand for sustainable services as key drivers in the German industrial services market. In this context, the switch from fossil fuels to hydrogen is particularly highlighted - an area in which Bilfinger is involved in numerous innovation projects. These include a pilot plant for large-scale drying of hydrogen, engineering services for an underground hydrogen storage facility in the Netherlands and participation in the HyGrid2 study to convert Austrian natural gas pipelines for the transport of hydrogen.

As an industrial services provider, Bilfinger covers all requirements in the life cycle of a plant: from engineering, manufacturing, and assembly to operation with comprehensive maintenance, major turnarounds and modification measures as well as dismantling. The focus is always on the highest quality and safety to support customers in the process industry in increasing the efficiency and sustainability of their plants.

The annual Lünendonk study on the leading German industrial services companies serves as an important market barometer for the industry. Further information is available at: https://www.luenendonk.de/produkte/listen/luenendonk-liste-2023-fuehrende-industrieservice-unternehmen-in-deutschland/
