How do I help make sure
people get home safely?

Maintaining the outstanding safety culture we have at Bilfinger is something that needs to be nurtured every day"

In the Nordic Region, Dag Bekkelund and his HSE colleagues work every day to meet high safety standards. Bilfinger’s main objective is to ensure that our employees get back safely to their homes and families at the end of the working day. We are continuously looking for ways to improve the way we work to make sure this happens. Our approach consists of looking for new improved technology and innovations that can improve both efficiency and safety. It is important to remain the preferred supplier to our customers, attract new business to ensure the growth of Bilfinger and also make Bilfinger an attractive employer.

As an example, we have now started working with modern technology such as robotics to carry out work in surface treatment. This technology replaces traditional manual work that traditionally has a high level of strain. It reduces the risks of safety incidents, the negative impact of ergonomics in addition to reduced noise exposure.

Dag has been with Bilfinger since 2009. He started as a quality manager and today he is the Regional HSEQ Director in the Bilfinger Nordics region. He has a bachelor’s degree from the Norwegian Business School (BI). "I started my career in business management at various companies before I specialized in HSEQ and I have been working in this field for more than twenty years now. It has been an exciting journey.  Every day is different with a new challenge to overcome. It is important to constantly learn new things, discuss and pass on good ideas on how we can better protect our employees and improve our performance on behalf of our customers.” As an example, Dag recently completed a program that gave him a Lean Black Belt Certification: “Lean is all about continuous improvement, and that is what my job is all about.”

"Maintaining the outstanding safety culture we have at Bilfinger is something that needs to be nurtured every day”, Dag emphasizes. His safety advice applies to all employees at Bilfinger, at all levels: “Go out on our sites, talk to the colleagues in the field and get their input. Based on this and your role in Bilfinger, think about how you can help make sure our employees get home safely from work every day?“
