- Responsibility for maintenance at three plant clusters
- Five-year contract
- Transfer of plants to Bilfinger successfully completed
Bilfinger and BASF have signed a comprehensive framework agreement for the maintenance of production facilities at BASF Colors & Effects. Bilfinger Maintenance GmbH will assume responsibility for maintenance and repair of three plant clusters at the site in Ludwigshafen, Germany, where mainly color pigments are produced and refined.
Ralf Schramm, Managing Director of Bilfinger Maintenance: "We are delighted that we have once again been able to extend our long-standing customer relationship with BASF – a relationship that is based on mutual trust – and that we are now also the main point of contact at BASF Colors & Effects for all maintenance-related issues. With our highly efficient teams, tools and processes, we are perfectly positioned to meet the demands presented by the current outsourcing trend. We are dedicated to delivering everything our customers need from a single source. It is this dedication that helps us to ensure our customers’ plants operate at the highest possible level of efficiency, safety and availability.”
For the contract at BASF Colors & Effects, Bilfinger has set up a team of roughly 60 employees to manage maintenance work on site. Bilfinger is also carrying out smaller modification projects and will manage the warehouse for maintenance materials and spare parts. The repair of safety valves, process analysis technology and so-called rotating equipment, which includes pumps, will be carried out by Bilfinger specialist workshops in Frankfurt. These workshops have a strong reputation for their high level of detailed knowledge and short repair times. A specialist workshop for minor repairs will also be set up at the Ludwigshafen site.
Dr. Klaus Hümke, Head of Global Production at BASF Colors & Effects: "Our goal is to continuously increase planned production volumes in the years ahead with services that are tailored to our needs, while maintaining our high safety standards. The support of Bilfinger Maintenance will play a key role in meeting this goal. After the first few months of cooperation, we are deeply impressed by how smoothly Bilfinger has taken over the maintenance work".
In August 2020, Bilfinger completed the transition process with the complete takeover of the third of three plant clusters from the BASF maintenance department. Maintenance work for the contract concluded with BASF Colors & Effects in January 2020 is now fully underway and Bilfinger Maintenance GmbH is fully responsible for maintenance at all three plant clusters.
With its BMC (Bilfinger Maintenance Concept), Bilfinger provides customers with a comprehensive, modular range of services covering all areas of industrial plant maintenance. The growing trend towards outsourcing in the process industry opens up major growth prospects for Bilfinger. These include, in particular, services relating to rotating equipment, turnarounds, digitalization as well as I&C (Instrumentation & Control) and analytical technology. Bilfinger is currently expanding its range of products in response to increasing demand for these services.
