Bilfinger and SusPhos work as partners on ambitious sustainability project
SusPhos is an pioneering company that upcycles phosphate-rich waste streams to generate high-quality alternatives to fossil-sourced products. A first innovative phosphate recycling plant is being built next to SNB's sludge processing plant on the Moerdijk industrial site. To realize this plant, SusPhos has partnered with Bilfinger to provide consultancy and engineering services.
We are proud that SusPhos has selected us as a consultancy and engineering partner for this sustainable project. This reaffirms Bilfinger's commitment to a greener future with minimal environmental impact and reinforces our position as the No. 1 in improving efficiency and sustainability for our customers.
Monique Overbosch
Regional Director at Bilfinger Engineering
After successfully carrying out a feasibility study, Bilfinger recently started the conceptual engineering of the plant. A kick-off together with the customer and strategic partners in April 2024 marked the start of this. Bilfinger's industrial consultants are also busy with the permit process and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) that is part of it. In the EIA we explore, among other things, different design options on environmental costs and the CO2 footprint of the initiative. After completion of the conceptual engineering, we will also handle the basic engineering, construction and commissioning for SusPhos.
Bilfinger has proven to be an ideal partner with their technical expertise in designing our first phosphate recycling plant. The collaboration is going well and we appreciate their focus on and commitment to sustainability. That fits well with what we stand for as a company.

CEO at SusPhos
SusPhos has the ambition to realize other plants in Europe and beyond after the completion of their plant in Moerdijk. Bilfinger is therefore learning and improving based on this first design and the integration of knowledge and data, in order to deliver a sustainably deployable design that can be used in the future.
