Since April 2020, I have been working as a Senior Legal Counsel at Bilfinger. I have a background in law and started my career at an engineering firm, where I was entrusted with a lot of responsibility early on as a corporate lawyer. That experience shaped me into a versatile legal advisor in the technical field. I was introduced to Bilfinger through a former colleague, and we clicked right away. The opportunity to work in The Hague again made the move feel natural.

At Bilfinger, I serve as the first point of contact for legal matters within the Engineering & Consultancy business unit. I review and draft contracts, advise on negotiations, and translate complex legal topics into clear, practical advice for my colleagues. I also often step in as a de-escalating force when tensions arise within projects. As a legal professional, you approach situations with a certain distance. That helps bring clarity.

What I appreciate most about working at Bilfinger is the dynamic nature of the project organization.

The technical environment I work in also offers plenty of opportunities to learn — from industrial processes to sustainable developments like recycling and the use of biomaterials. Because I am somewhat of an outsider as a lawyer in this environment, I get to learn a lot and truly add value.

Although I made a slightly awkward start during the COVID-19 period, I now feel completely at home. I would describe the atmosphere at Bilfinger as approachable, involved, and even a little familial. We work with a small legal team, and that makes communication more personal and effective.

Over the next two to three years, I am focusing on strengthening my role as the legal contact for Engineering & Consultancy. I see plenty of opportunities in my current role. Right now, professional development for me is about deepening my expertise and increasing my added value in practice.

For me, working at Bilfinger means contributing to concrete results, taking responsibility, and continuously learning. My work shows how legal expertise plays a crucial role in technical projects — and how, as a legal professional, you can truly make an impact.
