- Five-year contract for scaffolding services and digital solutions at steel mill in Ghent, Belgium
- Long-term cooperation following successful initial scaffolding project in 2020
- 20 to 60 Bilfinger employees on site daily
ArcelorMittal has commissioned Bilfinger to provide scaffolding services for regular maintenance work at their large-scale steel mill in Ghent, Belgium. In addition, the businesses cooperate in digitizing the administrative processes. ArcelorMittal chose the industrial services provider as a long-term partner based on a successful scaffolding project in 2020. 20 to 60 Bilfinger employees will work on the site of the international steel producer on a daily basis.
Thierry Burki, CEO of Bilfinger Industrial Services België/Nederland & Bilfinger ROB/EMV: “We’re very happy to have signed a five-year collaboration with ArcelorMittal. Sustainability and innovation are important values we share with ArcelorMittal. Bilfinger continuously invests in digitalizing processes to add value to our services. This collaboration is a result of our efforts in this regard and it drives the further expansion of our activities in Belgium and the Netherlands.”
Bilfinger won the contract based on the scaffolding project for ArcelorMittal Belgium successfully completed last year for the renewal of ArcelorMittal’s Blast Furnace B in Ghent, the steel company’s biggest and most important capex project in recent years.
“As Bilfinger has proven very high professional standards for safety, flexibility and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), it was a logical step to extend our collaboration with a new contract for five years, enabling us to increase our performance and efficiency even more,” says Yann Veys, Lead Buyer General Industrial Services at ArcelorMittal Belgium. “As the world’s leading steel company, this aspiration matches our entrepreneurial spirit and passion for excellence.“
Another key factor behind ArcelorMittal’s decision is collaborating with Bilfinger on digitizing all administrative and financial processes for the contract. ArcelorMittal has implemented a digital solution to streamline the request and processing of all scaffolding activities. This system has been linked to the Bilfinger Client Portal, providing the customer with an overview of all contract agreements, locations and job statuses in real-time. This makes it easier to record time, monitor progress and create work orders. As a result, many processes become faster and more efficient.
As in the past, the new order will be handled by Bilfinger’s subsidiary Bilfinger Industrial Services Belgium N.V.. The Zwijndrecht-based industrial services provider specializes in services for insulation, scaffolding, painting, trace heating, asbestos removal, fire protection, noise protection and rope access. The strictest safety and quality requirements are followed throughout all work processes.
For ArcelorMittal Belgium, the collaboration with Bilfinger marks the first time that the entire scaffolding process from request to invoicing is being digitalized. The Belgium subsidiary of the world’s leading steel company has 4,500 employees on sites in Ghent, Luik, Genk and Geel and produces approximately 6 million tons of steel per year.
