- New 5-year framework agreement for extensive maintenance, turnarounds and project work at one of Europe’s largest chemical plants
- Comprehensive multi-year Corrosion Under Insulation project to increase and guarantee the integrity of the facilities
- Multidisciplinary team of 300 Bilfinger employees on site daily
Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Bilfinger and Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk in the Netherlands have signed a new multidisciplinary five-year framework agreement, extending and expanding the two companies' long-standing partnership. The new contract includes an extensive scope for maintenance, turnarounds and projects, as well as a Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) program. For the execution of the contract, 300 Bilfinger employees will be involved in the daily work at Shell’s chemicals complex.
“We are proud of our excellent and long-standing relationship with Shell Moerdijk as a solution partner and are now looking forward to supporting the implementation of the extensive and competitive CUI program with our customer,” says Thierry Burki, CEO of Bilfinger Industrial Services Belgium/the Netherlands and Bilfinger ROB/EMV.
As in the past, the new order will be handled by Dutch subsidiary Bilfinger Industrial Services Nederland BV. The aim is to strengthen the competitive position of Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk by working collaboratively to improve maintenance processes and increase efficiency, with the CUI program being key to achieving this goal.
In this context, Bilfinger will provide services in the areas of scaffolding, insulation, steam tracing, blasting and painting as well as the lifting of piping. The industrial services provider bundles its expertise in the various trades and can thus deliver the entire process from a single source. Bilfinger ROB will contribute mechanical work to the assignment, while Bilfinger Height Specialists will provide rope access solutions for visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) - a safe, time- and cost-efficient alternative for hard-to-reach areas.
John Putter, Manager Operations at Bilfinger and responsible for the Shell Moerdijk site: “In recent years we have been able to expand the volume for scaffolding, insulation, painting and tracing and introduce new services such as rope access, NDT as well as piping & mechanical. This move will now help Bilfinger and Shell deliver maintenance and projects such as the CUI program efficiently and sustainably.”
The benefit of the multidisciplinary approach onsite is also seen by Richard Zwinkels, General Manager of Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk: “The decision to continue our long-standing partnership with Bilfinger is based on the solid integrated portfolio of services that Bilfinger has demonstrated in the past. Bilfinger's strength across our facilities lies in combining these disciplines into an efficient and safe solution. It also makes Bilfinger the largest contractor on our construction site, which means it bears a great deal of responsibility. By awarding the contract and extending the partnership again for five years, we have shown that we trust Bilfinger with this responsibility.”
Shell's chemical complex is one of the largest in Europe and produces chemical products based on crude oil. Shell Chemicals Park Moerdijk intends to invest billions over the next decade to enable the switch to clean energy. Bilfinger has been supporting Shell with maintenance services and turnarounds since its construction more than fifty years ago.
