Bilfinger UK has partnered with Blood Bikes to help provide professional, rapid response medical transport services to the NHS, free of charge.
The Blood Bike Groups play a crucial role in transporting blood, platelets, samples, surgical instruments, human donor milk, and many other clinical products across the UK and Ireland. Remarkably, these services are provided free of charge to the NHS by dedicated unpaid volunteers.
This Bilfinger collaboration will specifically support three regional Blood Bikes Charities in the Merseyside & Cheshire, Middlesbrough, and Berkshire areas. Namely Bloodrun EVS, Merseyside & Cheshire Blood Bike and SERV OBN.
As part of this partnership, the Charity Committee at Bilfinger, which brings together employees who share a passion for making a positive impact on society, has sponsored a Blood Bike Group in each of the three regions for 2025.
Bilfinger UK’s HSE Manager John Wood recently coordinated the collection of over 200 easter eggs and joined the Middlesbrough group, Bloodrun EVS, on their Easter Egg Bike Ride to deliver eggs to children in Teesside Hospitals and Hospices.
Derek Harcus, Chief Financial Officer at Bilfinger Engineering and Maintenance UK and Head of the Bilfinger Charity Committee said: “We are incredibly proud to partner with Blood Bikes UK for 2025. This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting vital community services and making a tangible difference.
“By sponsoring Blood Bikes in three regions, and encouraging our employees to volunteer, we aim to provide essential support to the NHS and the other charitable organisations that benefit from these services and together, we can ensure that critical medical supplies reach those in need promptly and efficiently. We look forward to a successful partnership and the positive impact it will bring.”
A spokesperson from Blood Bikes Group said: "We are thrilled to partner with the BUK Charity Committee for 2025. Their support in sponsoring Blood Bikes in three regions and organising fundraising events is invaluable to our mission. Together, we can continue to provide critical transport services to the NHS and other charitable organisations, ensuring that vital medical supplies reach those in need promptly. We look forward to a successful collaboration and making a significant impact together."
In addition to their primary mission, Blood Bike members collaborate with Human Milk Banks around the UK, transporting donor milk for babies in intensive care, and Air Ambulance charities, ensuring both routine and urgent replenishment of their 'Blood on Board' supplies.
