Overview

Our Pledge

In 2022, we pledged to hire 400 new entrants over the next five years to deliver future growth and attract and retain more young people across the sector.

We also committed to hire a number of new Trainees across our network in England and Scotland, with the majority of the positions created within its Maintenance, Modifications and Operations (MMO) business.

Each of our Apprentices undertake either a three or four-year programme of work experience and appropriate off the job training relevant to the discipline being worked towards, which will be certified by a recognised awarding body.

Industry Partnerships

We work closely with ECITB, which is the employer-led skills, standards and qualifications body for the development of the engineering construction workforce of the UK.

As part of this partnership, we have been heavily involved in the development, implementation and promotion of Connected Competence since inception.

Connected Competence is an industry-driven initiative, supported and enabled by the ECITB, which assures a base level of technical competence for workers across the industry through testing and assessments.

Academy

Bilfinger Apprenticeship Academy

With support from the ECITB, we have developed a Bilfinger Apprentice Academy and offering regional based opportunities across the UK which will be aligned to local colleges.  As part of the academy, we ensure our apprentices have the best learning experience with Bilfinger UK and become valued trained employees.

Induction

Bilfinger will induct each Apprentice prior to starting their first year at college. During this first year at college, representatives from the company, such as Site Managers and HR Business Partners, will visit the colleges to check on the development of each person, performance assessments will also be sent to the company upon completion of each module. A site based mentor will also be assigned and training plans will be created for the upcoming year.

Modules

Apprenticeship modules depend on the discipline of the position, however, all Apprentices will be based at college during the first year. Upon successful completion of this, and for all future years, the Apprentice will be based on site applying the knowledge they have gained during their first year whilst also completing additional modules for their qualifications.

Mentor

A site based mentor will be assigned to each Apprentice during year 2 who will act as a guide to the individual during their employment with us. A training plan will also be created to ensure the Apprentice is receiving sufficient experience of each area in order to successfully complete their apprenticeship.
