Bilfinger Berger strengthens its profile as a provider of sustainable services – Albert Filbert to become Corporate Officer for “Sustainability Projects”
Bilfinger Berger is advancing its strategic focus as a supplier of services and products that are more environmentally friendly and improve energy efficiency. The company is therefore combining its existing competences for sustainable solutions in an integrated range of services. To implement this strategy, Bilfinger Berger is also strengthening itself on the personnel side: From May 1, 2012, Albert Filbert, longtime Chairman of the Executive Board at energy provider HSE, will head the newly-created business development unit "Sustainability Projects" as Corporate Officer. Filbert will also be responsible for the company’s sustainability management. He will report directly to Executive Board Chairman Roland Koch.
"The skills Bilfinger Berger has in the implementation of sustainable projects are still underestimated. We want to position ourselves as an important partner for the realization of our clients’ sustainability goals", explains Roland Koch. "The bundled expertise of our specialized Group units offers tremendous potential for an expanded service offering for industrial companies and property owners."
Bilfinger Berger already has a wide range of services in the areas of sustainable energy supply and energy efficiency. The Group intends to further develop and more closely link these competences within the context of this initiative. Activities include modernization measures to put the most up-to-date environmental technology in coal-burning power plants or the conversion of these plants to operate on biomass as well as insulation and maintenance of solar thermal power plants, foundations for offshore wind turbines and the realization of "green properties".
“Especially with our experience in construction and as facility managers, we are able to make a decisive contribution to dealing with the challenges we face in reducing energy consumption in existing commercial properties and can serve as a competent, effective partner both in terms of technology and financing”, says Roland Koch.
Albert Filbert is considered a pioneer in the shift to alternative sources of energy. Under his leadership, HSE, which is active in southern Hessen and Rheinland Pfalz, positioned itself as a sustainability company, consistently investing in the expansion of renewable energy sources like solar-thermal, wind power and biogas. Filbert also developed economically attractive models for saving energy in commercial and residential real estate. "We are very happy to have added Albert Filbert, an energy manager with one of the strongest profiles in Germany," says Roland Koch. "With his experience, he will make an important contribution to the implementation of our strategic concept and will also present this concept to the public."
