A confidential industrial client partnered with Bilfinger to overcome a critical technical challenge: reducing emissions while maintaining reliable operations. Their existing heating infrastructure was built for high‑temperature processes, making the shift to low‑emission energy sources complex and economically sensitive. Bilfinger provided the technical insight and engineering expertise needed to navigate this transition.

The Challenge

The client faced the need to significantly reduce emissions while maintaining operational reliability. Existing heating infrastructure was designed for high-temperature processes, creating technical and economic challenges in adapting to low-emission energy sources. 

Our Solution

Net Zero Approach:

• Technical and economic analysis of low-emission heating options resulting in the development of two hybrid concepts. 
• Major risk identified: the existing heating infrastructure was designed for high-temperature operation and needed to be adapted to work efficiently with lower temperature sources.

Current Status

The roadmap and feasibility phase has been completed. Bilfinger has since started engineering works to adapt the existing infrastructure for a low-temperature source.
