Could I have guessed that I would be working as an industrial climber after my studies in sports and nutrition? No. But there is one thing I am absolutely sure of: It was the best decision I could have made. Working as a paramedic up to 300 meters above the ground? What might seem unimaginable for some, I experience every day as a member of the Bilfinger arnholdt GmbH team.
I trained as a paramedic during my studies and worked at the Corona Vaccination Center during the pandemic. I already knew Michael Bartalov. We had worked together previously and he trained me as an industrial climber. At the end of April this year, he came to me and said that he would like to have me on his team. It certainly didn't take me long to make up my mind about it.
Maintenance work at heights is what comes to mind for many people when they think about industrial climbers as a profession. Although this is one of the tasks, in reality our work encompasses a broad range of tasks. We carry out a variety of jobs, from inspecting the project, planning work, assembly and dismantling through to developing a rescue concept and carrying out height rescue activities. No matter what we are doing, we always pay attention to careful and safe work. My core competence as a paramedic is height rescue. But I also assist here and there with the kinds of tasks that my technical colleagues perform.
What I like about my job is the variety and the combination of physical work and planning tasks.
At the beginning, there were probably a few people who secretly doubted whether a woman could do this job as well as a man. It turns out that it can be done. That taught me to have faith in my own abilities and to be willing to learn - following this principle will ensure that you can do your job successfully.
We master all challenges we face together as a team. We all have respect for heights and know that our work would be impossible without absolute confidence in our equipment and in the team. This especially strengthens the bond we share. It is a bond that allows us to carry out projects at great heights, that involve heavy loads or that are located in places that are difficult to reach.
With every project we do, we show that we can work flexibly and quickly - but never at the expense of safety. We always look out for each other and always have an elaborate rescue concept ready. Through our work, we show every time that we can deliver near impossible projects with the help of our expertise, agility and teamwork. The slogan "We Make it work" thus has a special meaning for us.
