Roland Koch takes over as Chairman of the Executive Board - Herbert Bodner retires

On July 1, 2011, Roland Koch, 53, will take over the position of Chairman of the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger SE. He succeeds Herbert Bodner, 63, who will retire after twelve years at the head of the Company.

Roland Koch, a jurist specialized in business and labor law, was a member of the Hessian Parliament from 1987 to 2010, and from 1999 to 2010 Premier of the state of Hesse. He has been a member of the Executive Board at Bilfinger Berger since March 1, 2011. Roland Koch used his first months at the Company to gain in-depth knowledge of the services and construction Group’s broad service range in Germany and abroad.

Herbert Bodner, 63, joined Bilfinger Berger in 1991. Bodner, a graduate in civil engineering, has been a member of the Executive Board since 1997 and its Chairman since 1999. In this period he played a decisive role in the development of the Group. Bilfinger Berger’s strategic realignment from a construction company to a Multi Service Group, initiated in the late 1990’s, bears his signature to a great extent.

While the long years of recession in the German construction industry had far-reaching consequences for many competitors, Bilfinger Berger under the leadership of Herbert Bodner managed to free itself from dependence on cyclical demand in construction by systematically expanding a successful services business. Comprehensive services for industrial plants, power plants and real estate contribute stable margins and improve the quality of the Company’s earnings. Today, the services business accounts for approximately 80 percent of total output volume. At the same time, construction activities were also reorganized, with the goal of increasing profitability via risk management and concentration on selected markets. Herbert Bodner was President of the German Construction Industry Association and Vice President of the Federation of German Industries from 2009 to 2011.
