Construction completed on the Golden Ears Crossing in Vancouver

One of Bilfinger Berger’s largest privately-financed concession projects is about to go into operation: In Vancouver, host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics, the Golden Ears Crossing highway connection across the Fraser River was completed ahead of schedule in May 2009 following a 38 month construction period. The public private partnership project creates an important additional link from the Trans Canada Highway to the city’s roads network. Investment volume amounted to €800 million. At the heart of the project is a 1,000-meter long bridge structure across the river. The project also includes an additional four kilometers of elevated highway and nine kilometers of associated connector roads. Bilfinger Berger designed, financed and built the route and will now operate it for a fixed period of 32.5 years. During this time, the company will receive a fixed usage fee from the regional transportation authority.
