Bilfinger Berger to carry out structural work for new block at Grosskraftwerk Mannheim AG

High levels of investment in the modernization of energy supplies continues to drive Bilfinger Berger's business: The construction and services Group is leading a consortium that will carry out structural work for the new Block 9 at Grosskraftwerk Mannheim AG. The order has a volume of €120 million and Bilfinger Berger is responsible for 30 percent of the total. The structural work includes the laying of foundations as well as the construction of the boiler room and turbine building and three stair towers up to 128 meters high. The consortium will also construct roads, lay railway tracks and carry out earth works.

Last year, Bilfinger Berger was commissioned to produce, supply and install the high-pressure piping system for the new block of the coal-fired power station. In total, the company’s involvement in the project now represents an output volume of €80 million. When it goes into operation in 2013, the new block will replace two old blocks. The application of modern high-pressure piping from Bilfinger Berger will contribute to a significant improvement in efficiency: Less coal will be required for the same electrical output, yielding a reduction in CO2 emissions
