Bilfinger Berger operates colleges for further education in Northern Ireland

In Belfast, Northern Ireland, Bilfinger Berger has taken the last of four college campuses in which the Company is a major shareholder into full operation. The campuses were delivered as part of a public private partnership (PPP). Together with local partners, the Group has financed, designed, built or rehabilitated the educational facilities of the South Eastern Regional College. Over the next 25 years, the consortium under the leadership of Bilfinger Berger Project Investments will be responsible for operating the four schools. More than €90 million has been invested in the project and the Group’s equity commitment is approximately €3 million.

With PPP models, urgently needed investments in public-sector infrastructure can be made efficiently, quickly and reliably. At four locations of the vocational training centre in East Down and Lisburn, outdated facilities were replaced with a modern, energy efficient campus building after a two to three year construction period and now provide a contemporary learning environment.

Bilfinger Berger is involved in numerous PPP projects in the United Kingdom, where such models are an important and well-established instrument for the modernization of public-sector infrastructure. With a total of 30 projects in Europe, Canada and Australia, the Group’s concessions portfolio currently has an investment volume of approximately €7.7 billion with an equity commitment of €362 million.
