December 12, 2016

Bilfinger Deutsche Babcock Emirates employees walked five kilometers on Friday, November 11, to support the UAE’s largest public health awareness campaign against diabetes.

The annual walkathon in honor of World Diabetes Day returned to the Formula 1 track of Yas Marina Circuit, drawing a crowd of 20,000 people. Among them were 75 active supporters from Bilfinger Deutsche Babcock Emirates.

The event is also Abu Dhabi’s longest running health awareness initiative, and promotes walking to combat diabetes and other related diseases.

This is the second time that Bilfinger Deutsche Babcock Emirates has sponsored employee participation in the event. “We are always enthusiastic about promoting a healthier lifestyle among our employees, and this activity captures the essence of that goal. Walking is a simple but very effective tool to improve health,” Juergen Riedel, Bilfinger Deutsche Babcock Emirates’ Managing Director emphasized.

Diabetes is increasingly being seen as a major concern among the UAE population, with the disease now affecting nearly 1 in 5 people. Experts blame obesity and lifestyle as critical factors for the prevalence of diabetes in the country.
