Living Our Bilfinger Values: Piotr Duraj

Every project brings new challenges. I enjoy it when the bar is raised."
Piotr Duraj, 41, works with us as a Site Manager in Poland. His career at Bilfinger began as a student – thanks to a recommendation from his father, who worked with us as a Foreman. Today, after years of learning and growing, Piotr leads his projects with passion, commitment, and deep respect for the team he works with. The two Bilfinger values that resonate with him the most are Ambition, allowing us to continuously grow and achieve excellence, and Dedication, enabling us to exceed expectations.
How did you join Bilfinger?
“My dad recommended the job to me around 2006. At the time, I was looking for a way to earn some money during my studies, so I worked seasonally for three summers. It was a great experience – I met many kind, dedicated people, and the job helped me finance my education. After finishing my studies, I returned to Bilfinger and started a full-time job.”
What do you enjoy most about your work?
“What I value most is the opportunity for self-development and the fact that every project brings new challenges. I enjoy it when the bar is raised. It motivates me to grow. Financial stability and the company’s flexible approach to how I organize my work are also important to me.”
What does a typical workday look like for you?
“It depends on the stage of the customer project, but I usually start an hour earlier than the assembly teams. I use that time to review the schedule, plan tasks, and prepare for any unexpected situations – whether from the customer or within Bilfinger.
“We begin the day with a Toolbox Talk (TBT) with workers and Foremen. It’s an important moment to share safety updates and current site conditions. After TBT, I often inspect workstations and then return to project-related tasks.
“I also try to make time each day for a short meeting with the Foremen. We discuss the work status, the plan for the next day, and any changes. This helps the team work efficiently and flexibly, without unnecessary pressure.”
What does teamwork mean to you?
“At first, team building wasn’t my strong suit, but over time I realized that clear communication, mutual support, and trust are key. I always tailor the team to the specific task. Each one has different needs and motivations, and it’s my job to align those with project requirements. I always aim to create an environment where everyone knows what’s expected of them and can count on each other.
“Collaboration is the foundation of our success. I enjoy working with engaged people who can adapt to changing conditions. Projects often require quick decisions and flexibility, so a well-coordinated team that can respond to change is essential."
