CO2 Performance Ladder

At Bilfinger, we are actively committed to CO₂ reduction and sustainable business practices. Several parts of our organization are therefore certified under the CO₂ Performance Ladder.
These certifications highlight both our ambitions and the concrete steps we take to reduce our environmental footprint. Below, you will find more information about each entity’s certification and the associated efforts.
Bilfinger Engineering & Consultancy
Sustainable entrepreneurship plays an increasingly important role in our activities. An important part of this is reducing our CO₂ emissions. This means lower energy and fuel consumption and making more use of sustainable energy sources.
The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a CO₂ management system of the Dutch Climate-Friendly Procurement and Entrepreneurship Foundation (SKAO). This is sometimes requested in tenders, but is mainly a means of making improvements in reducing our organization's CO₂ emissions. Our certificate and part of the underlying documentation can be found on the website of SKAO Certificate Holders (co2-prestatieladder.nl).
In order to better manage, make visible and verifiable our efforts in the field of CO₂ reduction, Bilfinger Tebodin Netherlands B.V. will be certified at level 3 with all locations from April 2025.
The development of the CO₂ footprint within Bilfinger is presented in semi-annual newsletters. Newsletters since April 2025 can be consulted here.
Bilfinger also contributes to reducing CO₂ emissions in the chain and the sector. For example, by participating in project(s) on green hydrogen together with our clients. Bilfinger has also committed to the ‘Sustainable Supplier’ initiative. We presented “The common threads in energy saving” at the National Program for Industrial Sustainability.
In our communications, we share knowledge we gain through collaboration, including results from our WBSO projects. This is in line with the social responsibility that Bilfinger takes to harmoniously combine its business activities and processes, people, the environment and making a profit.
At the moment, no project with an award advantage is being implemented. However, we do participate in several initiatives. Read more on the public SKAO website.
The CO₂ management plan discusses the CO₂ footprint of the base year 2024. In addition, this plan includes topics related to requirements from the CO₂ Performance Ladder (What is the CO₂ Performance Ladder?). Think of the description of the Bilfinger organization, the Tasks and Responsibilities matrix and the Communication Plan.
In order to reduce CO₂ consumption, objectives and measures have been established for the period 2025–2027. These are elaborated in the CO₂ management plan, which includes our action plan and, from 2025 onwards, the progress report. This report also shows the progress of the CO₂ Performance Ladder compared to previous years. In this, we see an annual, steady decrease in our CO₂ emissions, showing where we stand in relation to the targets set. The total CO₂ emissions per year are shown in our public CO₂ Footprints included in these reports.
