Regional expansion through acquisition of Rodoverken: Bilfinger further implements group strategy to be No. 1 in efficiency and sustainability

  • Bilfinger acquires Rodoverken Group AB with locations in Sweden and Poland, following 20-year partnership
  • Rodoverken accumulator expertise strengthens Bilfinger’s position in growing European Thermal Energy Storage Market and presence in Nordic Region
  • Expansion of service portfolio for energy transition projects in line with Group Strategy to be clients’ No. 1 in enhancing efficiency and sustainability

Mannheim, Germany. Industrial services provider Bilfinger has reached an agreement to acquire Rodoverken Group AB from Induroc AB (managed by Granitor). The transaction includes both Rodoverken’s prefabrication site in Gródek, Poland, and its offices in Stenungsund, Sweden, as well as a total of around 100 employees. The corresponding contracts were signed on December 13, 2024. Closing is subject to competition authority approval and expected to take place in the first quarter of 2025.

The bolt-on acquisition is in line with the Bilfinger Group Strategy to be the number one for customers in enhancing efficiency and sustainability: It will strengthen Bilfinger’s position in the growing European Thermal Energy Storage Market, mainly by expanding the company’s expertise in heat accumulator technology and its product portfolio for energy transition projects. As Bilfinger has a presence in the Nordic Region, the acquisition will further increase the company’s regional footprint and service offering.

Rodoverken is mainly active in the Energy industry – one of Bilfinger’s four core industries – specializing in the planning, manufacturing, and assembly of heat accumulator tanks. With over 80 years of experience, Rodoverken provides comprehensive solutions for sustainable thermal energy storage and process media, showing a particularly high market share in the Nordics, especially Sweden. In 2023, Rodoverken generated revenue of approximately €30 million.

One of Rodoverken’s competitive advantages is its unique tank assembly method (the Spiral Method), which allows for a fast, safe, high-quality and weather-independent tank assembly. The company’s strong mechanical capabilities and geographical coverage complement Bilfinger’s extensive experience from various heat storage and distribution projects for customers across Europe.

“The Thermal Energy Storage Market is and will be growing rapidly, as it plays a key role in successfully driving the European energy transition,” says Thomas Schulz, Bilfinger Group CEO. “This transaction is perfectly in line with our strategy. With the workforce and expertise of Rodoverken as part of the Bilfinger Group, we gain valuable capabilities and capacities to accelerate our journey towards becoming market leader in the market.”

The decision on the acquisition is furthermore based upon a more than 20-year-long partnership, as Bilfinger has successfully been collaborating with Rodoverken since 2003. With the expected closing of the acquisition, Rodoverken and its around 100 employees in Sweden and Poland will be fully integrated into the Bilfinger Group, following highest health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) standards.
