Bilfinger’s Valve Workshop is currently installing approximately 3,000 locks on three offshore platforms under construction – the largest project delivered by the workshop for customer FlowControl Norway to date.
The work started earlier this year, and the goal is to complete the delivery before Christmas. The final phase of the project is planned to be carried out offshore.
“This is by far the largest delivery we have undertaken for FlowControl Norway,” says Anders Franche, Manager of Bilfinger’s Valve Workshop.
“We have worked with these types of locking systems for many years, but the scale of this project is unique.”
The locks are being installed on platforms currently under construction at shipyards in Stord and Haugesund. The systems are a vital part of the processing plant safety, preventing valves from being operated unintentionally.
“Each lock must be individually adapted and precisely adjusted to fit its designated position. It is extensive and detailed work that requires a high degree of accuracy,” explains Franche.
The delivery includes site measurements, engineering documentation, and installation. In the next phase, the systems will also be digitally integrated, enabling keys to be tracked and monitored from the control room.
The project is being carried out by a multidisciplinary team with extensive expertise and experience. To successfully deliver the project, the Valve Workshop is working closely with several Bilfinger teams across Porsgrunn, Karmøy, and Stenungsund.
“This project is a great example of how we mobilize expertise across our organization to deliver large and complex projects,” Franche concludes.
