Highest safety standards: Bilfinger records 17 million working hours without an accident

  • German subsidiary Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance GmbH has not had a reportable lost-time incident since May 2017
  • Mobile app for smartphones and tablets documents possible sources of risk
  • Safety training also for customer’s employees

Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance GmbH has reached an occupational safety milestone: Over the course of about four years, the colleagues completed more than 17 million hours of work without a reportable lost-time accident.

"At Bilfinger, we put our commitment to occupational safety and health protection into practice every day. It is paying off, with an impressive achievement that we are extremely proud of. I would like to thank all my colleagues who have made this possible through their commitment," said Niklas Wiegand, Chairman of the Management Board at Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance GmbH and responsible for the engineering and maintenance business in Germany. "For our customers, this means that Bilfinger as a partner not only offers integrated and comprehensive services throughout the entire lifecycle of industrial plants, but also delivers convincing performance with the highest standards of occupational safety.”

In order to achieve and maintain these standards, Bilfinger implements a wide range of measures, including safety campaigns (Line of Fire, Work Permit) and regular safety and health days. The introduction of even safer tools, such as impact wrenches in combination with finger protectors, prevents finger and hand injuries. Self-locking impact wrenches, guide rods for suspended loads, protective gloves and impact tools with integrated hand protection are also making an important contribution to occupational safety. With the HSEQ app, Bilfinger has also introduced a mobile solution for smartphones and tablets: In daily use at the customer sites, employees use this app to document accident reports, near misses, safety inspections and LMRAs (Last Minute Risk Analysis), among other things, which allows potential risks to be quickly identified and corrected.

In addition to internal solutions, Bilfinger also offers customers consulting and services that further increase their occupational safety. In practical courses and training sessions, experienced Bilfinger experts share their valuable knowledge and help to ensure that customer employees can also return home to their families safe and healthy at the end of every day.

Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance GmbH brings together a total of three Bilfinger companies under one roof. As a leading German industrial services provider (source [in German]: Lünendonk), Bilfinger is now networking its expertise in the various trades even more closely in order to be able to provide customers with a full range of services from a single source: from engineering and project execution to integrated services in maintenance and digitalization.
