€40 million deal with Kemira: Bilfinger developing into leading provider of efficiency for its industrial partners

  • Five-year framework agreement signed with Swedish chemical solution specialist
  • Kemira: Decision to extend cooperation also based on Bilfinger’s contribution to strengthening efficiency and substantially reducing costs
  • 50 Bilfinger employees on-site to optimize operations and occupational safety of various production facilities

Helsingborg, Sweden. Global chemicals company Kemira has renewed its framework agreement with industrial services provider Bilfinger for comprehensive maintenance services at its production site in Helsingborg, Sweden. The contract runs for a period of five years and covers various factory units within Kemira's largest location worldwide. Within the framework agreement, Bilfinger assumes exclusive responsibility for maintenance and project-related services, including engineering. The order is valued around €40 million and will be booked in the Engineering & Maintenance Europe segment.

“The extension of this long-standing cooperation underlines our strong market position in the Nordic region,” says Tove Tyberø, Executive President of the Bilfinger Nordics Region. “As a leading industrial service provider, we have been ensuring for decades that our customers can focus on their core business while we optimize their maintenance costs and, at the same time, increase the efficiency and productivity of their plants.”

As under the previous framework agreement from 2018, a multidisciplinary team of 50 employees from Bilfinger's Swedish unit Bilfinger Engineering & Maintenance Nordics AB will assume responsibility for the planning, execution and coordination of maintenance services, including mechanical, electrical, welding and ISP (insulation, scaffolding, painting). The team also carries out engineering projects related to the modification of facilities and is responsible for material management.

In addition to increasing the productivity, integrity and efficiency of the plants, the focus of the maintenance work is on optimizing occupational safety standards. Thanks to a wide range of measures, including safety trainings, inspections and safety and risks analyses, Bilfinger set high standards with Kemira in this area with zero accidents in 2021.

“We have decided to extend the collaboration with Bilfinger as we see a positive development in terms of efficiency and a continued high availability in production. We value Bilfinger's competence and commitment, not least in health and safety. We are convinced that the business is in very good hands and look forward to continued cooperation,” says Peter Kihlgren, Managing Director at Kemira Helsingborg.

Bilfinger's tailor-made maintenance concept for Kemira is based on the Bilfinger Maintenance Analysis, a method-based tool that identifies possibilities for improvement in the maintenance process. The analysis is part of the Bilfinger Maintenance Concept (BMC), through which Bilfinger provides its customers with a comprehensive, modular range of services for all areas of industrial plant maintenance. The combination of a local maintenance unit and a global network of technical experts ensure best-in-class solutions and processes. BMC follows two distinct objectives: Increasing the reliability of plants while simultaneously optimizing maintenance costs. Over a period of five years, the potential for cost reductions is as high as 40 percent while plant productivity can be increased by up to 10 percent under certain conditions.
