Bilfinger wins order for rebuilding of a methanol plant in USA – Order volume of 30 million USD

Bilfinger has been awarded a contract for the rebuilding of a methanol plant that is being relocated from Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) to West Virginia (USA). The customer is a West Virginia based company, Liberty One Methanol LLC (“US Methanol”). The project will be carried out by Bilfinger Westcon that belongs to Bilfinger's international Engineering & Technologies segment.

Work will commence in late April 2017, with a volume of 30 million USD, and will be completed in early 2018. Bilfinger has been tasked with rebuilding of the plant including site preparation, steelwork, piping, electrical works and scaffolding.

Tom Blades, CEO of Bilfinger: “The contract for the rebuilding of a methanol plant is a great success. We view the North American market with high interest due to its current size and potential to outpace the overall global economy in the coming years. Therefore the US is one of the four core regions in our new strategy Bilfinger 2020.”

Methanol supply shortages in the region are driving this project and it is expected to be the first of several regional methanol relocation projects being carried out by US Methanol. This first project will supply 175,000 metric tons per year of methanol to a strategic end user under a long-term supply agreement for the company.

“This project will provide our client with a key regional supply of methanol to support the Kanawha Valley, which was a booming industrial chemical region of the US established in the 1920’s that is now showing signs of a re-emergence”, said Terrance N. Ivers, President of Bilfinger North America.

Bilfinger’s positioning with this client may lead to a long-term partnership for the future regional methanol projects to support Bilfinger’s US business. Bilfinger´s North American business has its roots in the USA.

Bilfinger has over 3,000 employees in the United States, primarily in engineering and services in the industrial sector.
