Bilfinger to supervise installation of major Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms by Equinor and Polenergia in the Polish Baltic Sea
Includes around 100 wind turbines supporting a combined capacity of 1,440 MW
Bałtyk 2 and 3 mark a major milestone in advancing the region’s renewable energy generation and providing energy security
Warsaw, Poland. International industrial services provider Bilfinger will deliver comprehensive supervision services during the development of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea, which are a joint effort by Equinor and Polenergia.
With 100 wind turbines, Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 will have a combined planned capacity of 1,440 MW, making it one of the largest offshore wind initiatives in Poland. The new wind farms are expected to significantly support the region’s energy transition by improving long-term energy security and establishing the Baltic Sea region as a major hub for offshore wind power.
Jaromír Kříž, President Central Eastern Europe at Bilfinger: “This is a significant milestone for Bilfinger’s involvement in the region’s energy sector. Having already established a strong collaboration during the onshore scope of Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, we are glad to now be selected for the offshore scope as well. It is a clear confirmation of our customer’s satisfaction and trust, and we are committed to ensuring the highest quality, safety, and efficiency.”
Bilfinger will oversee the assembly and installation of the offshore substations, the installation of the wind turbines, the laying of the export cables with a total length of more than 120 km, as well as the landfalls to connect the turbines to the onshore section. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with design requirements and permits, supervision of quality and safety, and providing technical advisory and reporting to the investor.
Once operational, both wind farms will be able to supply two million households with clean energy.
