- Facility to set new standards in energy efficiency and sustainability; Resource-conserving water treatment and recovery are key
Dresden, Germany. International industrial services provider Bilfinger has secured a contract with an international semiconductor manufacturer for their new production facility in Dresden. Bilfinger will be responsible for the prefabrication and installation of wastewater treatment systems for the entire production area, leveraging its extensive expertise in this sector.
With the new semiconductor plant, the Dresden region further solidifies its position as a central microelectronics hub in Europe. The production facility is part of the European Chips Act, which aims to increase the EU’s semiconductor production to 20% of the global market by 2030. Currently, one in three microchips produced in Europe originates from the Dresden region.
“We are glad to be part of this groundbreaking new plant, which will bring lasting benefits not only to the European semiconductor industry but also to the Dresden region,” said Thomas Schulz, Bilfinger Group CEO. “As a solutions partner for resource-efficient wastewater treatment, we will make a significant contribution to meeting the high expectations for efficiency and sustainability.”
For the required wastewater systems, Bilfinger will handle both the prefabrication and installation of pipelines as well as the setup of equipment and electronics. The efficient, resource-conserving treatment and recovery of the generated wastewater is key: In compliance with regulatory requirements, it can either subsequently be reused in the production process or safely discharged into the wastewater system.
