Bilfinger responsible for overhaul of the two generators at the Garsten - St. Ulrich hydropower plant until March 2028
The contract continues the decades-long, trusting collaboration with Ennskraftwerke AG and underscores Bilfinger’s expertise in the energy sector

Mannheim, Germany / Steyr, Austria. International industrial services provider Bilfinger has been awarded a contract by Ennskraftwerke AG for the overhaul of the two generator units at the Garsten - St. Ulrich power plant in Upper Austria. The scope of work includes the prefabrication, refurbishment, and installation of rotating and static equipment, which is scheduled for completion by March 2028. These services will ensure long-term reliability and efficiency of power generation.
Ennskraftwerke AG is a long-established Austrian energy company that operates twelve hydroelectric power plants on the Enns River and two on the Steyr River, making a significant contribution to Austria’s sustainable electricity supply. The power plant in the municipalities of St. Ulrich and Garsten generates an average of 157 gigawatt-hours of sustainable electricity annually, covering the annual needs of approximately 40,000 households in the region.
The overhaul of both generators includes the replacement of the two stators, all rotor poles, and the fans, which are being manufactured by Bilfinger prior to the start of these works. The remaining generator components will be thoroughly inspected and refurbished by Bilfinger before being put back into service. Bilfinger covers all aspects of the overhaul – from prefabrication to disassembly of the generators and to refurbishment, installation, and commissioning.
