Expert Engineering and Commissioning for Your Installations
Bilfinger delivers the full engineering process for low- and medium-voltage systems, including design, configuration, and testing of advanced protection systems. We program and parameterize protection relays to meet your specific requirements and applications. After installation, we perform primary and secondary testing to verify safe and reliable operation.
Our expertise includes designing and modifying cable connection boxes for transformers, motors, and switchgear—brand-independent across all leading OEMs.
We also create custom maintenance plans tailored to your installation, operations, and risk profile. These plans include inspection schedules, asset condition assessments, and technical advice for overhaul, replacement, or modernization.
When technical knowledge is limited, we provide full support: from switching plans to certified Stipel technicians for safe shutdown and restart—minimizing risks and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Preventive Maintenance for Medium- and High-Voltage Systems
Preventive and planned maintenance is essential for operational reliability and safety. Bilfinger maintains and tests all components—switchgear, protection devices, transformers—according to NEN-EN 3140/3840, IEC, and ISO standards, regardless of brand or type.
We perform mechanical maintenance on low- and high-voltage switches, including inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, and part replacement. Switchgear is refurbished with new insulation and optimized contact systems.
Transformers receive specialized care: gasket replacement, internal inspection, oil sampling, and ISO 17025-certified analysis. Additional services include thermographic inspections and diagnostic tests such as insulation resistance, capacitance, and partial discharge measurements.
Our integrated approach combines maintenance and diagnostics to prevent failures, optimize performance, and assess asset condition and remaining lifetime—helping you make informed investment decisions.
Complete Installation Projects for Electrical Systems
Bilfinger manages full construction and retrofit projects for electrical installations—from delivering and installing switchgear and transformers to connecting medium-voltage components and processing copper work.
We install cable systems up to 30kV using certified XLPE and GPLK joints, transition joints, and terminations, ensuring proper shielding, insulation, and mechanical protection. Every assembly is tested for reliability and long service life.
Our services include maintenance for both new and obsolete systems, with internal inspections of switchgear, transformers, and distribution units. We repair, replace, or refurbish components to restore safe operation.
On-site copper busbar modifications are performed using a hydraulic 4-stage process trolley, improving efficiency and reducing project delays.
Bilfinger’s modular approach and multidisciplinary expertise guarantee safe, reliable solutions for low- and high-voltage installations.

On-Site Electrical Testing and Diagnostics
Bilfinger performs advanced electrical measurements on-site using mobile test equipment and cable fault location vehicles. We test medium- and low-voltage transformers, cables, motors, and switchgear to ensure safety and reliability.
Our services include insulation tests up to 120kV DC, AC withstand tests up to 80kV 50Hz, and VLF tests up to 90kV AC 0.1Hz for cables up to 30kV (NEN HD620). We conduct partial discharge measurements (IEC 600034-27), tan delta, impedance, and infrared analysis.
For switchgear, we measure mechanical operating speeds, open/close times, contact resistance, and perform vacuum tests. We also offer First Trip Analysis and primary current injection for protection verification.
UPS battery systems are tested via discharge tests or Cellcorder measurements without downtime. These diagnostics reveal aging, contamination, and defects—providing data for trend analysis and maintenance planning.
Fault Analysis and Troubleshooting for Electrical Systems
Bilfinger provides advanced fault diagnostics for medium- and low-voltage installations to ensure safe and reliable operation. Using techniques like cable fault detection, recording measurements, and network analysis (NEN 50160), we identify defects, voltage fluctuations, and current variations quickly and accurately.
We also analyze mechanical failures in switchgear, including slow contact opening, spring mechanism issues, and wear on moving parts. Our goal: minimize unplanned downtime and guarantee stable, secure performance.
With expert troubleshooting and preventive strategies, Bilfinger helps you maintain operational continuity, reduce risks, and extend the life of your electrical assets.
