Bilfinger is a trusted specialist in the engineering, reverse design, inspection, and repair of high-speed turbomachinery gearboxes serving the oil & gas, offshore, maritime and industrial sectors. High-speed gearboxes with parallel shafts, epicyclic and integrally geared arrangements in single helical with(out) thrust collars or double helical design.

Leveraging OEM expertise from renowned brands like Rademakers and advanced precision machining capabilities, Bilfinger delivers maximum reliability and performance for gearboxes operating under high rotational speeds and demanding operational conditions.

Our engineered solutions handle rotational speeds up to 60,000 RPM, power outputs up to 80 MW, and gear pitch line velocities up to 160 m/s.

High speed inspection and repair program

Bilfinger offers three structured inspection levels for high-speed gearboxes, each designed to provide progressively deeper insights into gearbox condition and performance. All inspection activities are aligned with API 687 guidelines and executed in accordance with the international standards outlined in the “Standards we work by” section.

Level 1 Inspection

  • Visual assessment of gearbox housing, piping, oil seals and internals
  • Identification of leakage, visible wear or damage
  • Ideal for routine checks or pre-shutdown evaluations
  • Performed on-site or at our Bilfinger Gears & Services workshops

Level 2 Inspection

  • Includes all Level 1 visual checks plus dimensional measurements and runouts
  • Non-destructive testing, dynamic balancing and test-run
  • Detects early-stage wear, misalignment, and contamination
  • Supports scheduled maintenance planning
  • Performed on-site or at our Bilfinger Gears & Services workshops

Level 3 Inspection

  • Complete teardown and analysis per API 687
  • Includes all Level 2 activities plus extended measurements and reporting
  • Comprehensive Gear tooth evaluation incl. profile and tooth trace modifications
  • Provides a full health profile and remaining life assessment of the gearbox
  • Damage evaluation performed by certified specialists using standards such as:
    • ISO 10825 – Gear tooth wear and damage
    • ISO 7146 – Hydrodynamic bearing damage
    • ISO 15243 – Rolling bearing failure modes

We 3D-scan, reverse-engineer, and manufacture parts using state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machines, specialized gear cutting and grinding machines, ensuring OEM-level quality and compatibility.
