To ensure reliable and flexible operation of Munich’s district heating network, Stadtwerke München required a high-capacity heat accumulator. The solution had to store large amounts of thermal energy safely and make heat available according to demand.

Bilfinger supplied and erected a dual-zone heat accumulator based on the Hedbäck system. The scope included the accumulator as well as piping and insulation works. Acting as general contractor, Bilfinger managed the complete system integration and coordinated all relevant engineering, fabrication and erection activities.

Added Value:

The dual-zone heat accumulator provides additional flexibility for operating Munich’s district heating network. It enables heat to be stored and supplied according to demand. This supports the more efficient use of available heat generation capacities and the continued transformation of the heat supply system.

By taking full responsibility for system integration, Bilfinger provided Stadtwerke München with a single point of contact for the entire project. Bilfinger combined engineering, prefabrication, erection, commissioning and documentation into one integrated project delivery.
