- Partnership with afb continues to expand
- Digital learning conditions for trainees are being specifically improved
- Sustainable IT use promoted through refurbishing and rental model
Mannheim/Ettlingen. Bilfinger is making its training programs even more attractive, investing in digital learning opportunities while strengthening its social and sustainability commitment. Together with afb gGmbH, a long-standing partner in sustainable IT cycles, Bilfinger is equipping approximately 200 trainees with tablets for the first time. The devices were handed over at the Mannheim site in early January and officially presented to the learners shortly afterwards at a major trainee event.
As Bilfinger's central training organization in Germany, Bilfinger education plays a key role in developing future talent. Bilfinger provides training at over 30 locations nationwide in 26 vocational professions – primarily in the skilled trades and technical sectors.
With the introduction of the new tablets, trainees receive tangible added value: They simplify everyday vocational school life, promote digital learning, and improve collaboration with trainers and specialist departments. At the same time, they often replace the use of laptops or personal devices and enable easy access to learning materials, digital tools, and vocational school-related content – for a significantly more efficient learning routine.
"Digitalizing training is a crucial building block in optimally preparing young talent for the future. With the tablets, we are not only making learning easier but also consciously investing in modern working methods to remain attractive as an employer." – Alexander Schröder, Head of Training at Bilfinger education
The cooperation with afb demonstrates how Bilfinger puts Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into practice.
Environment – Environmentally Friendly IT Management
For ten years, Bilfinger has been handing over decommissioned hardware to afb for professional refurbishment. This approach was consistently continued in the current project as well: During the handover in Mannheim, around 70 laptops from Bilfinger's headquarters were also collected to be refurbished for a further lifecycle.
The new tablet rental solution further strengthens this closed-loop system: After the usage period ends, the devices are either returned to afb for refurbishing or can be taken over by trainees. This ensures the entire lifecycle is designed to be resource-efficient.
Social – Strengthening Inclusion and Social Commitment
afb is an inclusive company: Around half of its employees work there with a disability. Through this close collaboration, Bilfinger supports afb's social commitment to social participation and promotes secure jobs for people with disabilities – an important contribution to social sustainability beyond the company's own boundaries.
Governance – Clear, Fair, and Reliable Collaboration
Bilfinger has worked with afb in a relationship of trust for many years and ensures transparent processes as well as high quality standards. This reliable partnership is an important building block of responsible corporate governance.
"This project shows how sustainable IT and social responsibility can work together. With Bilfinger, we are creating modern and environmentally friendly solutions for training at the same time." – Daniel Senger, Team Leader afb digital education
With this initiative, Bilfinger is sending a clear signal: The company is continuously investing in modern training structures, thereby strengthening its position as a future-oriented employer – especially in times of increasing skilled labor shortages.
