Living Our Bilfinger Values: Dave

Teamwork and safety go hand in hand."

Dave, 27, studied Electromechanical Engineering and works at our BENE site in Elsloo, the Netherlands. While we were talking to him, it became clear that two of our values were particularly present: Accountability, which refers to taking responsibility, acting with integrity, and never compromising on safety. And, Team Spirit, which reminds us that our teamwork and collective skills are what make us strong.

Dave has been part of #TeamBilfinger for more than a year now, working in Testing & Calibration. When he started working with us, it marked a significant change in his life. “I was looking for a job that I really enjoy doing,” he says. And: He is happy he found it at Bilfinger.

What is your job like?

“We test and calibrate all sorts of equipment and instruments from our customers and for use within Bilfinger. The great thing about my job is the diversity of tasks and customers: We can be at our workshop working with small scales and finishing reports; or we can be at a huge industrial plant, calibrating weighing stations, for example.

“When I applied for a job at Bilfinger, I was eager to learn something new. School has taught me many of the basics, but I was trained on the job for my specific tasks and challenges. I love that I am still learning new things every day.”

So, you found what you were looking for?

“I found colleagues that feel like friends and a working atmosphere that allows me to reach out to anyone, if I have questions or a problem. No matter the age, we treat each other with respect. In my team, I am the youngest and I benefit from tons of experience. I am trying to soak in my colleagues’ wisdom as much as I can.”

What role does teamwork play in your daily work?

“A very important one, because teamwork and safety go hand in hand: We ensure safety by working together, for example when lifting something heavy. The largest scales we calibrate can measure up to 120 tons. It actually takes a crane to lift them and at least two pairs of eyes to survey the surroundings.

“Safety is the number one factor at work – both at Bilfinger and at customer sites. Yes, we are trained to very high safety standards. But I also think it has turned into a mindset for us. I can confidently say that I feel safe at work, and I know when to refrain from doing something, if I don’t.”
