Metalworking

Training Focus
Mechanical technicians in mechanical engineering maintain and commission mechanical equipment in accordance with specified plans and standards. They are able to produce complex assemblies and custom-made components. Their knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and control technology enables them to identify and correct faults in systems and machines.
- Duration of apprenticeship: 3.5 years
- Training locations: Linz, Schwechat, Krems
- Also as a double apprenticeship in Krems: metal technology/mechanical engineering (H1) and electrical engineering/plant engineering (H3) - apprenticeship duration 4 years
- Vocational school: You will attend vocational school during your apprenticeship. School time is 10 weeks per apprenticeship year, 5 weeks in the final year.

Training Focus
Welding technicians permanently join metal parts using various welding techniques. They produce welds on containers, boilers, and machine components, as well as during assembly processes. The importance of welding is highlighted by the fact that at least one third of all steel production is used in welded consumer goods.

Metal technicians in steel construction fabricate and assemble steel and light metal structures and equipment. A wide range of processing methods is required, particularly in plant construction. Their expertise includes various welding processes as well as hydraulics, pneumatics, and CNC control technology. This enables them to troubleshoot systems, identify defects, and carry out repairs.

Metal technicians in machining shape components using mainly computer-controlled machine tools such as drilling, turning, milling, and grinding. They are responsible for the entire production process of a workpiece. They use a wide range of measuring instruments and technologies required for metalworking. Their knowledge of electronic controls and computer technology ensures that high quality standards are met.

Electrical engineers in plant and industrial engineering carry out electrical, electromechanical, and electronic work in industrial plants. Their tasks range from installation and maintenance to troubleshooting and repairs. They also build control panels according to specifications and are responsible for preventive maintenance.

Refrigeration technicians install, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems used in the industrial sector. They also install and commission refrigeration and air conditioning systems. They troubleshoot, isolate, and correct malfunctions.

Training Focus
Structural steel design engineers work in project teams and use their creativity and technical understanding to develop new design solutions for machines and systems. During their training, they work on various projects, designing and modelling pipelines, steel structures, and machines. They also gain practical experience with design software, drawing creation, and project workflows. In addition, they acquire theoretical knowledge in areas such as technical and structural fundamentals, materials, and standards, preparing them for their final apprenticeship examination and future career.
