Engineering and services for coal and gas-fired power plants: Bilfinger Berger acquires design specialists Envi Con
Bilfinger Berger has acquired design specialists Envi Con, headquartered in Nuremberg, Germany. The company has a leading position in the German and European markets for the design and management of large coal and gas-fired power plant projects. “The acquisition of Envi Con fits perfectly into our strategy of positioning Bilfinger Berger as an engineering and services group”, stressed Roland Koch, Chief Executive Officer. The engineering company generates an output volume of approximately €35 million with 230 employees. The company was previously management-owned and the two parties have agreed to keep the terms of the sale confidential.
After Bilfinger Berger just a few weeks ago acquired Tebodin, a highly-regarded engineering specialist in the Industrial Services business segment, the Group has now also succeeded in taking this step in the Power Services business segment. Engineers at Envi Con design entire power plants or take on engineering for specific sections such as steam generators, piping systems or electrical engineering. Envi Con's most important recent projects have included comprehensive design services for the expansion of Vattenfall's Moorburg and Boxberg power plants as well as the execution planning and overall design of two new blocks at RWE's Westfalen power plant.
Envi Con has proven software solutions developed in-house for the design and visualization of complex project processes. As a result of the acquisition, Bilfinger Berger can significantly expand its range of services in the design of plants - both for new construction and demanding modernization projects.
Bilfinger Berger is among the leading providers to the energy sector in the national and international markets that it serves. Power Services is the most profitable business segment in the Group. In the year 2011, the segment generated an output volume of over €1.1 billion and EBITA of €96 million.
