Dr. Bernhard Walter to celebrate his 70th birthday

Dr. Bernhard Walter, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Bilfinger Berger, celebrates his 70th birthday on March 3, 2012.

Bernhard Walter, former Speaker of the Executive Board at Dresdner Bank, has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Bilfinger Berger for fourteen years and has served as Chairman of the committee since 2006. In this period he emphatically supported Bilfinger Berger's strategic realignment. As a result of its transformation from a construction to a services Group, the company has managed to make itself largely independent from the cyclical demand of the construction business. Comprehensive services for industrial facilities, power plants and real estate contribute stable margins and improve the quality of the Group's earnings.

"With his straight and honest personality, Bernhard Walter has established an excellent basis for trustworthy and constructive cooperation between the Supervisory Board and the Executive Board," says Roland Koch, Chairman of the Executive Board at Bilfinger Berger.

In addition to his business activities, Bernhard Walter is also strongly committed to social issues. Of particular note are his efforts in support of the reconstruction of Dresden's famous Frauenkirche between 1994 and 2005. The donor certificate from the Dresdner Bank, which he played a key role in initiating, provided a significant degree of financial security for the ambitious project with a donation volume of about €75 million. As current Chairman of the foundation's board, Bernhard Walter continues to actively promote the appropriate utilization and the preservation of the Frauenkirche in Dresden.
