Bilfinger Berger makes further investments in privately-financed concession projects: New schools in Scotland with a volume of €140 million

For the second time this year, Bilfinger Berger has reached financial close on a privately-financed concession project in Scotland. In the Scottish county of Clackmannanshire, the Group will design, finance and build three new schools. Investment volume amounts to €140 million. Once construction is completed, the Company will operate the buildings over a 30-year period in return for fixed payments from the Clackmannanshire Council. Bilfinger Berger will be investing equity capital of €7 million in the project company. Just a few weeks ago the Group received an order to realize new schools in the Scottish Borders Region on a similar basis.

In the United Kingdom, Bilfinger Berger is playing a leading role as a partner to the public sector in the education system. This is in addition to a number of hospitals and clinics also being realized. In Australia, the Group is executing major projects in both the prisons and health care sectors, and in Germany the Company is increasingly benefiting from growth in the market for public-private partnerships in building construction.

“We want to continue to pursue investment opportunities in high-yield concession projects", emphasized Herbert Bodner, Chairman of the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger. “Our existing project portfolio has good earnings potential. In addition to stable cash flows and an attractive return on equity, the increasing maturity of the portfolio leads to a disproportionately strong increase in market value in the future.”
