Dr. Christian Roth celebrates his 75th birthday

Dr. Christian Roth celebrates his 75th birthday on December 29, 2008. He was with Bilfinger Berger AG for more than 40 years, was a member of the Executive Board for 26 years and Chief Executive Officer from 1984 to 1998.

During this time, Dr. Christian Roth played a decisive role in shaping the development of Bilfinger Berger. His contributions were essential for the successful merger of Grün & Bilfinger AG and Julius Berger-Bauboag AG to Bilfinger Berger AG in 1975. He later created a strong foundation for the expansion of Bilfinger Berger’s business activities with the internationalization of the Group. After leaving the operational side of the business, he joined the Company’s Supervisory Board and remained a member until June 2003.

Dr. Christian Roth was President of the German Construction Industry Association from 1993 to 1996. His time in office was marked by the consequences of German reunification and the opening of Central and Eastern Europe. Dr. Christian Roth helped create international assignment regulations to protect the domestic construction market from the unfair competition from European low-wage providers. In terms of economic policy, his early advocacy of privately-financed solutions for the implementation of public-sector infrastructure was very important.

The School of Civil Engineering and Surveying at the Technical University in Munich awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1991. In 1993, his efforts in the integration of the East and West German construction industries and his commitment to improving the competitiveness of the German construction industry were recognized with the awarding of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
