Bilfinger Berger awarded power plant orders with a total value of €300 million – intensive research & development work
With growing global demand for energy, Bilfinger Berger is benefiting from investments in the expansion and modernization of power plants both in Germany and around the world. In the past weeks, the construction and services Company has received new orders from the energy industry with a total value of €300 million. The projects include construction works and services in coal-burning power plants in German locations like Karlsruhe, Lünen, Mannheim, Moorburg or in Belchatov, Poland, in nuclear power plants like Olkiluoto, Finland as well as in renewable energy facilities like the Roedsand offshore wind park in the Baltic Sea just off the coast of Denmark. Bilfinger Berger is supplying and installing specialized high-pressure piping and carrying out complex civil engineering and foundation works.
Bilfinger Berger, as partner to the energy industry, is involved in projects to expand and improve the efficiency of both new plants as well as those in need of modernization. The Company also helps clients meet increasingly strict environmental protection regulations. This requires significant investment in state-of-the-art machine technology. Bilfinger Berger recently commissioned the most powerful inductive bending plant for high-pressure pipes in Europe. The Company is also contributing to a number of research projects looking at how CO2 emissions in power plants can be reduced. These include research into new materials that would allow for higher burning temperatures or the development of more efficient desulfurization processes. Other research initiatives are exploring how to improve the burning process at coal and gas power stations. One such process developed by Bilfinger Berger for the drying of coal has significantly increased efficiency.
The value of the Group’s projects in the energy sector currently amounts to over €2 billion, including numerous long-term service agreements for the repair and maintenance of power plants.
