Last year’s positive trend in orders received in Bilfinger Berger’s Australian civil engineering business has continued in the first months of the current year. The Group has recently received major orders with a volume of €250 million.

In Queensland, Bilfinger Berger is to build a 100-kilometer long pipeline and pumping stations for the region’s water supply. The order, based on an alliance contract, has a volume of €180 million. Geared towards a partnership between client and contractor, this contract form is becoming increasingly important in Australia. An alliance contract is appropriate when the scope of services to be provided is determined by the client and contractor during the project itself, rather than beforehand. Joint committees ensure that decisions are made quickly for the benefit of the project.

Bilfinger Berger has also received an order for the expansion of an additional section of the Hume Highway which connects Sydney and Melbourne. The project, with a volume of €70 million, involves the modernization of a 16-kilometer long stretch of the highway, which will provide relief for the nearby towns and villages from heavy traffic. The Company has already expanded other parts of the Hume Highway in recent years and is also responsible for the long-term maintenance of individual sections.

Bilfinger Berger continues to see excellent prospects in the Australian civil engineering business. “Demand is greater than available capacity. The boom should continue”, said Herbert Bodner, Chairman of the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger.
