Continued strong demand for civil engineering works in Australia:
Bilfinger Berger receives orders with a volume of €270 million
Bilfinger Berger is benefiting from the ongoing strong demand for major infrastructure projects in Australia. Two major orders with a volume of €270 million reinforce the Group's strong position in that civil engineering market.
Bilfinger Berger has received an order for the expansion of the Hume Highway, connecting Sydney and Melbourne. The company has recently expanded other parts of the highway and is also responsible for the long-term maintenance of individual stretches of the route. The project, with a volume of €210 million, is to be completed by the end of 2009 and includes a 22-kilometer section in which the number of lanes will be doubled, a new eight-kilometer section, and the construction of nine bridges. The order is based on an alliance contract, creating a partnership between client and contractor. This ensures that decisions can be made quickly and prevents future conflicts.
Bilfinger Berger is also constructing the third section of the Geelong Ring Road in Victoria. The order for the construction of a four-lane stretch, with a length of 7.5 kilometers, has a volume of €60 million and is scheduled for completion in mid-2009. The Group has already completed the first section of the same road.
Prospects for Bilfinger Berger in Australia remain very good: "Australia continues to be our biggest civil engineering market. We want to increase our market share and to further solidify our position", explains Herbert Bodner, Chairman of the Executive Board at Bilfinger Berger.
