Major concessions project in Canada with a volume of €600 million: Bilfinger Berger to provide major new river crossing near Vancouver

With the successful financial close of the "Golden Ears Crossing" project in British Columbia, Canada, Bilfinger Berger has added a further major transportation project to its concessions portfolio. The project comprises financing, design, construction, and long-term operation of a 1,000 meter-long bridge across the Fraser River, together with three kilometers of elevated highway and nine kilometers of associated connecting roads. The construction volume is €600 million. The concession company is wholly-owned by the Group, and represents an equity commitment of €38 million.

A consortium led by the Civil Engineering division of Bilfinger Berger will be responsible for design and construction work on the project. Upon completion, the concession company will then operate the crossing for a period of 32 years in return for a fixed fee paid by the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority (TransLink).

Just in the middle of February the Group succeeded in securing a major concessions infrastructure project in the United Kingdom. A consortium led by Bilfinger Berger is responsible for the financing, design and expansion of a major highway network in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The project has a volume of €225 million and Bilfinger Berger's equity commitment amounts to €12 million

Even today, Bilfinger Berger's relatively young concessions business is already contributing positive value-added and will have a significant share of net profit in the long term. "We will continue to expand our commitment, with return on capital employed continuing to be the decisive factor in the kinds of projects we select", stated Herbert Bodner, Chairman of the Executive Board.
