Expansion of concessions business to Scandinavia:
Bilfinger Berger to take on 38-kilometer long section of highway in Norway
Following the establishment of a strong competitive position in the civil engineering market in Scandinavia, Bilfinger Berger is about to take on its first privately-financed transport project in the region. In Norway, a consortium under the leadership of the company has been selected as preferred bidder for the financing, design, construction and operation of a 38-kilometer long section of highway. The project volume is expected to be approximately €475 million.
The section in question is part of the E 18 highway between Oslo and Kristiansand, one of the country's main traffic connections. Construction is being carried out under the auspices of Bilfinger Berger's Civil division and includes numerous bridge and tunnel structures. After completion, the project company, in which Bilfinger Berger has a 50 percent stake, will take over operation and maintenance of the section over a period of 25 years for a fixed fee from the Norwegian state.
Bilfinger Berger's civil engineering competence and operating expertise are ideal complements to one another and form an important strategic advantage for the Group in international major projects. On this basis, Bilfinger Berger has been able to show increasing success in opening up new markets of late. In Canada, the Company recently took on the privately-financed construction of a highway project and a bridge connection with a total volume of over €700 million.
