Burg Correctional Facility: Bilfinger Berger receives order for PPP project in Saxony-Anhalt
Bilfinger Berger is posting strong new business gains in concessions for the current year.
The Group has now received an order to design, finance, build and, over a period of 25 years, operate the correctional facility in Burg, near Magdeburg within the framework of a public-private partnership (PPP) model. For the first time in Germany, all non-sovereign activities in the construction and operation of a correctional facility will be fully privatized. The facility, which can accommodate 650 prisoners, will go into operation in 2009. The investment volume amounts to about €100 million and Bilfinger Berger's equity commitment is €7.5 million.
Only recently the Company was awarded contracts for two PPP building projects. In Chemnitz, a justice center which will serve as the municipal court and the state attorney's office will be realized. And in Halle, Bilfinger Berger will modernize and operate eight schools. The investment volume for these two projects is €75 million and there will be no equity commitment from the Group.
Internationally, Bilfinger Berger has already taken on three large privately-financed transport infrastructure projects this year. The Golden Ears Crossing, a bridge project in Vancouver, the M1, a city highway in Belfast and the E18 Motorway in Norway have a combined investment volume of €1.3 billion and the Group's equity commitment amounts to about €57 million. The Company has also been selected as preferred bidder for three building projects in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Bilfinger Berger pursues a long-term growth strategy in its concessions business and has a valuable project portfolio with good profit potential. Its market value is well above the book value of the paid-in equity. The Company will achieve stable cash flows and an attractive return on equity over the term of the projects.
