New bridge-building projects: Bilfinger Berger strengthens its market position in Scandinavia
With several new orders, Bilfinger Berger has further strengthened its market position in Scandinavia, where the company is concentrating on demanding civil engineering projects. In connection with the expansion of the Swedish rail network, Bilfinger Berger is building two important bridges in the province of Norrland and an overpass in downtown Gothenburg. In Norway, the Group is carrying out construction on two bridges for a new road connection over the Imarsund. The volume of these projects amounts to a total of €80 million.
The Scandinavian market continues to gain importance for Bilfinger Berger's Civil business. Total order volume in the region amounts to €310 million. Currently, a 5 kilometer long railway tunnel underneath downtown Malmö as well as a road tunnel in Stockholm are being built. Work on a tunnel which crosses underneath Gothenburg's harbor area is to be completed this year. The Svinesund Bridge, built by Bilfinger Berger above the Idefjord between Sweden and Norway, went into operation in June, 2005. This technically demanding structure is part of the new expressway between Gothenburg and Oslo.
In comparison to Germany, the expansion of transport infrastructure in many other European countries is considerably more dynamic. With its cutting-edge expertise in civil engineering, Bilfinger Berger is in a position to profit greatly from this development.
