Major orders worth a total of €325 million: Bilfinger Berger underscores strong position in Australian building construction
Through its Australian subsidiary, Baulderstone Hornibrook, Bilfinger Berger has obtained new orders for building construction worth a total of €325 million.
In Sydney, the company is to erect a turnkey office complex with an order volume of €120 million. Optus, an Australian telephone company, will relocate some 6,000 jobs to these buildings, which will also be fitted out by Baulderstone Hornibrook in accordance with the lessee's wishes for around another €30 million. In Adelaide, Baulderstone Hornibrook is to construct a 21-storey office building worth €50 million. This will be the first phase in the renewal of an entire block in the city's central business district. The office building will fulfill the most stringent environmental standards in both the construction and the operating phase. And on Christmas Island, Baulderstone Hornibrook will build an immigration center for the Australian government accommodating 800 immigrants. It will be in the middle of a national park, so environmental factors will have top priority also with the execution of this project. The order volume amounts to €125 million.
Baulderstone Hornibrook is one of Australia's leading specialists for challenging projects in the field of building construction, and has been a part of the Bilfinger Berger Group since 1993. With the acquisition of Abigroup at the end of 2003, Bilfinger Berger became the second-largest construction company on the continent. At present, Bilfinger Berger has an order backlog in Australia for building construction alone of more than €1 billion.
