Majestic Arc over the Idefjord: Svinesund Bridge between Sweden and Norway Opened
It connects Sweden and Norway and is considered the most graceful arch bridge in the world: The new Svinesund Bridge over the Idefjord. The Royal Families of both Sweden and Norway traveled to the opening on June 10, 2005, thereby making the event a climax of the festivities of both countries for the 100th Anniversary of the dissolution of their union.
The Bridge, an extremely technically demanding structure built by Bilfinger Berger, spans the estuary with a total length of 247 meters and is part of a new highway route between Göteborg and Oslo. The arch was built using the cantilever method - construction was carried out simultaneously from both sides of the waterway. The order volume for the structure, which has a total length of 700 meters, was €60 million.
