Dr. Hans Wittmann celebrates his 70th birthday

Dr. Hans Wittmann, Member of the Executive Board at Bilfinger Berger AG from 1979 to 1996, will celebrate his 70th birthday on November 28, 2005. During his tenure as an Executive Board Member, he was responsible for the Group's international business. In this capacity, he shaped the company's involvement in Nigeria and pushed the expansion into new markets, particularly South-East Asia and Australia.

The civil engineer, who was born in Fulda, began his career in 1962 with Julius Berger AG, a predecessor company of Bilfinger Berger. From 1969 he worked as a project manager in Nigeria and in 1974 he joined the Executive Management of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC. Five years later, Hans Wittmann was named to the Executive Board of Bilfinger Berger, initially as a deputy member and, in 1980, as a full member. Following his retirement from the Executive Board, he joined the Supervisory Board for two years.

As Vice-Chairman of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Hans Wittmann continues to be closely involved in Bilfinger Berger's Nigerian business. He has received tremendous public recognition for his outstanding commitment in the West-African State and the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for promoting German-Nigerian relations. Hans Wittmann is also one of the few Europeans to receive some of the highest honors awarded by the Nigerian State.
